How to Choose the Right Swim Cap – No Matter What Your Hair Type

Everyone’s hair is unique. And that’s a beautiful thing.

But when it comes to sizing, it can make things difficult – and it’s not always easy to find the right fit.

So to help make things easier (and get you swimming with confidence sooner), we’ve put together this guide to choosing the right swim cap for your own personal hair type.

From short hair to long – and with all types of volume – we’ve got a swim cap that’s made for your hair.

Let’s get started:

Swimming with short hair

For shorter styles, the answer is simple:

You’ll need a standard-sized swimming cap – like our own SOUL CAP Regular Swim Cap.

It’s a smaller version of our signature Large Swim Cap, with a snug fit and a tight seal that’s been carefully designed for shorter hair.

You’ll get the same streamlined motion through the water, the same protection from the chemicals in the pool – and the same skin-friendly material that’s made from 100% premium silicone.

Just like the rest of our swim cap range, it’s got a unisex design that fits all genders – so you only need to think about the length and volume of your hair.

Our Regular Swim Cap is perfect for:

  • Short hair
  • Low-volume hair
  • Fine hair

Swimming with medium-length hair

If you’ve got hair that sits above the shoulders, you’re in the medium-length range. And in most cases, that means our Regular Swim Cap is still a perfect fit.

(Especially if your hair is on the straighter and lighter side – without so much volume.)

Just like with any other kind of swim cap, you may need to wrap or twist your hair up into a bun so you can tuck it up under the cap. It’s all about getting a tight seal, and keeping that water where it should be!

Our Regular Swim Cap is perfect for:

  • Medium-length hair
  • Straight or fine hair that sits above the shoulders
  • Curly or bouncy hair that sits above the shoulders

Swim caps for long and straight hair

For hair that’s on the longer side (that comes down past your shoulders) you’ll need a cap with a little more space.

When all of that length gets wrapped up under a cap, a regular-sized swim cap won’t give you the same tight seal against the water. So instead, you’ll need a cap with extra volume – like the SOUL CAP Large Swim Cap (M), which you can view here.

Our Large Swim Cap (M) is perfect for:

  • Straight or fine hair that comes down past your shoulders

Swim caps for medium-length voluminous hair

If you’ve got hair that’s blessed with volume, you’ll need a swim cap that’s ready to handle what you’ve got.

Just like with long and straight hair, you won’t be able to get a seal against the water with a smaller cap – and that could leave your hair vulnerable to the damaging effects of water and the chemicals in a pool.

So for voluminous hair that’s not so long, we’d recommend either the Large Swim Cap (L) – or the Large Swim Cap (XL).

Our Large Swim Cap (L) is perfect for:

  • Curly or bouncy hair that sits above your shoulders
  • Afro hair that sits above your shoulders

And our Large Swim Cap (XL) is perfect for:

  • Braids that sit above your shoulders
  • Locks that sit above your shoulders

Swim caps for long and voluminous hair

If you’re lucky enough to be blessed with both length and volume, you’ll need our largest swim cap to give your hair the protection it deserves.

Our Large Swim Cap (XXL) is just like our other caps – giving you watertight protection, a streamlined motion, and a skin-friendly silicone material. But it’s a cap made specifically for long and voluminous hair, with the size and space you need to hold your style.

Our Large Swim Cap (XXL) is perfect for:

  • Braids and locks that come down past your shoulders
  • Curly or bouncy hair that comes down past your shoulders
  • Afro hair that comes down past your shoulders
